Pathological Gambling as one of the most prominent examples of behavioural addictive disorders is becoming more and more important for addiction therapy. Gambling as well as compulsive buying or excessive internet use might not belong to the classic forms of addiction like alcohol or drug dependence - therefor the risk might often be underrated. Actually the massive losses caused by for instance excessive Internet gambling are ruining more and more lifes. Is "healthy gambling" possible in general? In many cases: probably not. However, gambling can also be described accurately on a symptom level - as the result of a deficits in personality development. These deficits can also be addressed adequately within the setting of a therapeutic community.
